Aldeburgh Opera Writing Course
In March 2003 I was part of a group of writers and composers attending
a course on Opera Writing organized by the
Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme
at Aldeburgh. The course took place in the Snape Maltings complex which
is home to the Aldeburgh Festival and many other arts events. It was led by the director
Stephen Langridge and the librettist Stephen Plaice, and we had seminars and workshops
from the composers David Sawer and Jonathan Dove, the librettist April De Angelis and
the directors Tim Hopkins and Nicholas Till.
On these pages, I've put a few photos of the course.
I didn't manage to find a collaborator for the Genesis Opera Project, so will have
to wait for the next one. But I'm still interested in writing an opera some day, so any
composer who fancies a collaboration is welcome to get in touch with me via
the university. (There's a search facility for email
addresses on the site.)
